“Leap of Faith” is directly inspired from the Torah portion “Lech Lecha”. In that parsha, Hashem tells Avram and Sarai to “leave the land of your fathers and go to the land that I will show you”. It is said, that although Avram was already advanced in age, never once did he question “why”, but packed up and followed Gd’s command without hesitation.

At different times in our lives we may feel that gentle or strong “push” to make some major change. Whether with a job or relationship, these situations can be incredibly scary, because the outcome is uncertain. If we ignore taking this step and resist the idea, circumstances somehow “magically” arrange themselves, forcing us to make the move forward.

“Leap of Faith” centers on this idea of diving in, regardless of the end result. Divine forces nudge us in a certain direction to get us “back on course”. We don’t see the entire picture, or know what will unfold in the future, so the venture can be filled with fear and trepidation. Once the change is made, we hope for ease, happiness and relief, but usually things do not turn out as we hoped. Additional obstacles materialize for us to overcome. And yet, over time, we handle it all. It is not until later, in hindsight, that we can appreciate the weaving of circumstances and heavenly intervention that brings us to the place we were meant to be.

A current of dangerous water winds through the center of this art piece. Above, a female figure seems ready to take the leap. Below her, barren, stormy and rocky islands act as the stepping stones to the promise of green, fertile and nourishing lands that await. Beneath the raging water, undulating layers of calm seas harmonize to move us toward new and better chapters of our lives.
